Arya's Interview With Sify.com

Arya is back with a bang with Naan Kadavul. This young man with no industry connections has made deep inroads into Tamil cinema with just seven films to his credit. Girls are going knock-kneed and don’t blame them for it as this six-footer has an incredible charm that works big time with the fairer sex. Arya in conversation after the release of his most ambitious Bala directed Naan Kadavul.

You were missing at the red carpet premiere of Naan Kadavul. Was it a conscious decision to be away from limelight?
I would have loved to get all the attention, but what to do? My director Vishnuvardhan dragged me along for the song shoot of Sarwam (just kidding) in Kutch. It was the last song and with this the film is complete.

How do you react to negative talk among people in the industry and critics about the film that it is too disturbing?
(Smiles) All I can say is that from next time, I will make sure that there are no premieres or special shows of my film. There will only be paid premieres where the ticket rates will be double. When you give something free, people are bound to criticize.
But honestly, I am really not bothered about critics and reviews, as audiences are the people who matters most. The film is getting standing ovation and going houseful in all release stations including multiplexes and single screens throughout Tamilnadu and overseas. In US, the film is a super hit and we are all happy.

They say that you did not get enough screen space though you gave three years of your career. Please comment?
I don’t believe that an actor should be there in every frame to make an impact. In Arindhum Ariyamalum, I was there for just 45 minutes and had one song. Still, people loved my performance. And in a film like Naan Kadavul, how can people see a dark character like Rudran for two hours? It is Bala’s film and I completely trusted him. He has made a wonderful film and I am proud to be part of it.

Was Bala a difficult task master?
He is every actor’s dream director. He is such a sweet guy who is so talented and has a great vision. He has no egos and we had a great time working together.

Was it difficult to get out of Rudran character after the film was over?
Not for me (Laughs) but Vishnu had a tough time to get Rudran out of me, when we started Sarwam.

What is the best complement that you received so far?
Rajini sir watched the film and called me up to congratulate. I was speechless while he was talking about my performance. Please remember that I had watched all his films till Chandramkhi in theatre along with the public and here the biggest icon of south Indian cinema calling me up was something which I can never forget. And Sify.com gave the film a superb review. I could have not asked for more.

What next?
I am starting an untitled film in Karaikudi produced by Metro Films who has made Dhaam Dhoom earlier and directed by Manikandan who was late director Jeeva’s assistant and the man who completed Dhaam Dhoom. Sarwam is ready and I am also doing Vijay’s Madrasapattinam.

Arya with Mohanlal in Casanova!

Arya is going to do his first film in Malayalam Casanova with Mohanlal in the lead and directed by Rosshan Andrews and produced by the construction and real estate company Confident Group, Bangalore.
The 'pooja' launch of the film took place on Saturday, January 24 at Confidante Cascade, a resort run by the producer Dr Roy C.J, which was attended by the unit of the film and directors like Priyadarshan, Joshy and Sibi Malayil.
Arya, has an important role in the film and he burst into the stage at the function riding a red motorcycle (see pic). Rosshan Andrews, the director has made super hits with Mohanlal like Udayananu Tharam (remade in Tamil as Vellithira) and the boarding school romance Notebook has been working on the script of Casanova for the last two years along with its writers Sanjay and Bobby.
Says Rosshan Andrews: “Arya, after reading the script of the film was very eager to do the film with Mohanlal. It is an action, romantic thriller revolving around a Casanova (Mohanlal) who believes that love can cure crime. There is a Casanova in one out of every five men in the world. There are five models and Lakshmi Rai in the film along with other Malayalam artists. The major shoot of the film will be in Vienna in Austria and other European locations, and will start from April 10."
Casanova with a budget of Rs 10 crore will be the costliest Malayalam film ever made. Arya has given 40 days bulk dates to shoot the film in Europe in April and May, and will be his next film after Sarvvam.
This Malayalam film is going to be Mohanlal's big 2009 Onam release on September 2

Sarvam Trailer - Arya & Trisha

Arya in a Pre-Independence Movie

Arya is mighty happy with the way 'Naan Kadavul' has opened across Tamilnadu. And now the latest news about Arya's future endeavor is that he would be part of a period film 'Madarasa Patinam' that is to be directed by Vijay (the man behind 'Kireedom' and 'Poi Solla Porom').

According to a press release issued by the producer of the film Kalapathi S. Aghoram, the film would be set in the year 1945. Audiences would get an opportunity to see British India. Extravagant sets to bring about the right kind of effect would be erected.

The script demands a foreigner to play the heroine and the film's think-tank is on the lookout for an appropriate actress. Though Vijay has directed just two films till now, he has shown audiences that he has the tenacity to come up with engrossing screenplays.

The talented cinematographer Nirav Shah who came out with some innovative camera work in 'Dhoom 2', 'Billa', 'Pattiyal' and 'Arindhum Ariyamalum' will crank the camera for this project too. G. V. Prakash has been appointed the music director.

Apart from Arya and the foreigner (yet to be fixed), the rest of the cast for 'Madarasa Patinam' include Nasser, VMC Haneefa, Bala Singh and many more.

It sure would be interesting to see a Tamil film set in pre-independence India.

Naan Kadavul Opens BIG

Director Bala's much-awaited 'Naan Kadavul' got released on Friday amidst high expectations. As expected it opened to packed houses across the theatres. The movie on the life of 'Aghori' Saadhus and an underground beggar mafia is an entirely new theme for Tamil cinema. Living up to the hype and expectations, the movie managed good reviews on the first day itself.
Film-buffs who had watched the movie on day one of its release appreciated Arya's powerful performance and the technical brilliance in the movie including Arthur Wilson's cinematography and Illayaraja's background score.

A visibly happy producer M Sreenivasan, said, "I thank all the fans for giving the film a good opening. Wherever the movie has been released, it has been reported houseful shows. At many places, following unprecedented crowd, the show has been increased in adjoining screens too. I am happy that the movie has managed a positive response from the masses."
