Arya Stranded...

Apart from contributing to the mounting losses in millions of dollars for the airline industry that is paralyzed due to the Iceland volcanic ash, the situation is also expanding to other industries. Few folks from the Tamil film industry are stuck in London and others who had plans to shoot in Europe have dropped the same due to the uncertain situation in airline services.
Arya and Shriya had been camping in the UK for filming a song sequence for Chikku Bukku. The unit was due to return to India after completing their schedule but things turned out otherwise with the Iceland volcano eruption. With the flight being cancelled as the weather is not conducive, the team is left stranded in London.

While Shriya is said to have reached Switzerland by road to take part in a Telugu film shooting, Arya has planned to reach India by arriving at another destination where flights to India are not affected before reaching his hometown.

MADRASAPATTINAM IS SIMILAR TO TITANIC

Madrasapattinam is a tragedy like Titanic, we hear. Well, it is not a story based on a ship but is set in the pre-independence era. Sources report that the film is based on the pre-Independence era during which the hero Arya, a son of a dobhi, and a British lady (played by Amy Jackson) fall in love. Following strict resistance from the families, the lovers could not unite and the heroine goes back to her native country.

After 50 years, Amy comes back to India to trace her long lost lover. The climax of Madrasapattinam is so similar to Titanic, particularly the tragedy part.

Arya Complains...

Telugu film Varudu, in which Arya plays the villain, was released a few days ago. When the reporters asked Arya on why he decided to play the baddie when he is a well-accepted hero in Kollywood, he replied that being an actor he should not look for specific roles and end up being stereotypical.

Soon after the release of Varudu, which has Allu Arjun and Banu Mehra in the lead roles, Arya filed a complaint at the Nadigar Sangam that his salary was not settled by producer Dhanayya even after repeated requests. This complaint was taken up by the Nadigar Sangam and its president Sarathkumar held discussions with the producer to resolve the issue. Following the Sangam’s intervention, Arya’s dues were settled.

Excerpts from Madraspattinam Audio Release

Madras of the 1940s was recreated at the Chennai Trade Centre on Sunday, as the audio of ‘Madharasapattinam’, a film set in the pre-independence era, was launched at a grand gala function.

The event was attended by some big names of Tamil cinema, including Kamal Haasan and Shankar. They were brought to the stage through a special train, which resembled the ones that were used during the British rule.

Produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment, ‘Madharasapattinam’ starring Arya is directed by Vijay of ‘Poi Solla Porom’ and ‘Kireedam’ fame. The director said in his address: “The promos and stills of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Marudhanayagam’ inspired my to do a film like Madharasapattinam.”

He added: “I request Kamal sir to restart ‘Marudhanayagam’. Such films should sure reach audience and they should not be stopped in mid-way. I thank my producer and colleagues for their cooperation and support for ‘Madharasapattinam’.”

Arya said, “The film’s budget is many times bigger than my market value. I am hopeful that ‘Madharasapattinam’ would be received well by the masses. Vijay has carefully crafted each and every scene.”

Kamal said: “Credits should be given to AGS Entertainment, who had come forward to produce such a beautiful film. Not just ‘Madharasapattinam’, but AGS has been constantly making movies with a difference.”

MadrasPatinnam Audio Release

Amy Jackson speaks about Madrasapattinam!

Miss Teen World Amy Jackson is making her Kollywood debut in Arya’s upcoming Madrasapattinam, a period love story set in pre-Independence era! “When I began looking for a heroine, I happened to see Amy’s picture in the Miss Teen World pageant on the Internet. The moment I saw her picture, I knew that she was the person I was looking for. My only concern was whether she would agree to be a part of this project. We searched all of England for her. In fact, my line producer in England, David Choudhary, after being unable to trace Amy, sent me pictures of 100 other girls to choose from. I told him ‘I don’t mind looking at the pictures but I want Amy as my film’s heroine.’ Finally, we decided to have auditions in London and as luck would have it, Amy walked in on the third day. That was how she came to be part of Madrasapattinam,” said Vijay, director of the film.

“I’ve always wanted to travel to India. Acting is one of my passions and this film appeared to be the perfect opportunity. When I went for the casting, I wasn’t sure if I’d do the movie. But once I heard the storyline and met the director, I was sure I wanted to be part of it. Everyone made me feel welcome, not like how it is in England. I was able to relate with Vijay and we decided that it would be a good move for me to make,” Amy said to a leading English daily.

“I didn’t know what to expect. However, it was a fantastic opportunity and Arya and Alex really helped me settle down. My character is Amy Wilkinson, the 18-year-old daughter of the governor of Madrasapattinam. A problem arises when I fall in love with an Indian boy as it was forbidden back then. My character is that of a kind, genuine person who loves Indians unlike her father and stepmother,” she added.

Madrasapattinam is the revolutionary love story (of a Madrasi and a British girl) set in the pre-Independence era. Vijay, who directed Kireedam (Ajith) and Poi Solla Porom will direct this beautiful love story. Nirav Shah is the cinematographer and G.V. Prakash is music composer. Vijay has elaborate plans to recreate the aura of the British era in India. Kalpathi Agoram, who gave the recent blockbuster Subramaniapuram, produces Madrasapattinam.

Madhrasapattinam - Audio launched

A sense of nostalgia was evoked at the audio launch of Kalpathi S Aghoram’ AGS Entertainment’s, Vijay directed Madhrasapattinam, featuring Arya and Amy Jackson in the lead.

The music of the film is by GV Prakash. Said the young, talented music director: “It is a very special day for me, as I had done a lot of research on the music of the film.”

The launch took place at the Chennai Trade Centre, on Sunday (April 4) evening which looked like the old Madras of 1940’s. The guests had to walk through Mount Road of that era with Elphinstone theatre, trams, horse drawn carriages and small petty shops. Vijay and his team brought about a certain amount of authenticity that left everybody awed.

The VIP’s were brought on stage in a train with a steam engine. Three people who were born in the 1930’s and had seen the then Madras in the final days of the British Raj and helped Vijay prepare his script was brought on stage and thanked.

The entire unit of the film including its lead stars Arya, Amy Jackson, cameraman Nirav Shah, editor Antony, art director V Selvakumar, costume designer Roopali Noor, action choreographer Manohar Varma, makes up man Pattinam Rasheed, lyric writer Na Muthukumar and GV Prakash were introduced on stage.

Four of the five songs from the album which has lovely music by GV Prakash were performed on stage by Rukmani, Piaa, Amy Jackson and Arya. The only song to be shown on screen was Meghame, Meghame… picturised against the backdrop of a ‘dhobi ghat’ in old Madras. The making of the songs and its importance was explained by the cast and crew on the video

Kamal Hassan, the chief guest at the function unveiled the audio in the presence of director Shankar who was the guest of honor. The others present on the occasion included Bala, Sibiraj, Bharath, Sasikumar, Prabhu Deva, Parthipan, Vasanth, Srikanth, Lissy Priyadarshan etc

‘Madharasapattinam’ invite makes waves

A look at the music launch invitation of ‘Madharasapattinam’ could take you to the Chennai of pre-independence era, since director of the film Vijay and his team have carefully crafted the invite with many a surprise.

There were postal covers with stamps of the King and Queen, British coins circulated in India at that time, post cards of the 1940s, photographs of old Madras, tickets for a show at the Eliphinstone theatre and a map of the town of Madras (in which the city ends just by touching Guindy).

Says Vijay, who had earlier directed ‘Kireedam’ and ‘Poi Solla Porom’, “this is not a mere publicity stunt. Since the film is set in pre-independence era, we wanted the audio launch invitation to resemble that. We formed a team which did intense research to put things in shape.”

“I am happy to receive a positive feedback for the invitation,” he says and adds: “I should thank producer Kalpathi S Agoram for allowing me to spend without any restrictions to bring authenticity in the movie as well as in the invitation.”

Kamal Haasan will launch the audio of ‘Madharaspattinam’, the Arya starrer, at a grand function in Chennai Trade Centre on Sunday. Director Shankar, Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan and Distributors Association president Kalaipuli G Sekaran among others will be the chief guests.

Varudu SPOILER ALERT

Behind the Movie stage Varudu: Creative director Gunasekhar and stylish hero Allu Arjun’s deadly combination has created big hype for the movie. Mani Sharma’s music and Veturi’s lyrics got enough recognition before the release further increasing the enthusiasm of movie lovers. The suspense tag revolving around heroine and the importance of subject added with good production cost are put to litmus test today. Let us see, how this ‘Varudu’ fared.

In the Movie Varudu: Sandeep (Allu Arjun) is the only son of lovely couple Gopi and Vasundhara (Ashish Vidyarthi and Suhasini). Sandeep is not the regular kind of college going guy who loves to fall in love again and again. He enjoys partying with friends in pubs but has due respect towards our culture and traditions. As Sandeep has secured the Visa to fly the USA, his parents decide to find the right match and were surprised to know that their son believes only in arranged marriage.

Sandeep even loves to follow the old customs and forces their parents to arrange for a five days marriage that too by keeping the bride in real suspense as he wants to see her only during the time of wedding. As the bride Deepthi (Bhanu Sri Mehra) is now selected by Gopi and Vasundhara; entire family battalion now lands in her village for the marriage occasion and celebrations are on.

During the magical moment of ‘Jeela Karra Bellam;’ Sandeep and Deepthi face each other and were instantly in love (This is USP of the movie). During the final ritual in their marriage villain Diwakar (Arya) makes his entry and elopes Deepthi.

Diwakar and Prabhakar (Ahuthi Prasad) are cruel brothers who have eyed on the beauty of Deepthi. When Police officers (Nazar and Rao Ramesh) were strucked in a pity situation unable to help, Sandeep himself enters the battle and finishes Prabhakar to win his ‘Vadhuvu.’

Performance wise Allu Arjun was brilliant. In first half although he was conservative; come second half he excelled in fights and emotional scenes. One department where Allu Arjun disappointed his fans is dances. Neither there were peppy numbers nor were those regular catchy moments from him. Heroine Bhanu Sri Mehra comes late in first half. Audience clearly felt that the suspense and boost up build around this heroine was not totally deserved. Her introduction was magnified more by the occasion rather than by her beauty. As the movie progresses, Bhanu has caught the enough attention and overall she was just passed. Ashish Vidyarthi and Suhasini were good enough for their roles. Nazar, Rao Ramesh, Naresh were also just okay. Comedy wise Brahmanandam was a dud.

Surprise pack of entire movie was villain artist Arya. His cruel acts, valor, impeccable acting abilities and physical appearance made the movie to reach a second level in second half. Strictly speaking, Arya overshadowed Allu Arjun and he is the main reason why second half has come better than first half. Dubbing by Ravi Shankar (Arundhathi ‘Bommali’ fame) for Arya was astonishing.

Out of the Movie Varudu: Basic line of the movie and subject has the shades picked from our epic Ramayanam. But the required depth that was necessary to create an impression was absent. Gunasekhar most of the time has concentrated on visual grandeur but not the real content which he was trying to convey. First half, audience were almost tired enough until the Telugu Wedding sequences and heroine arrives on the screen. Second half, Arya was the savior and it was only action entertainment from then on. There is no comedy in the movie and music wise very poor. If Allu Arjun, Arya’s presence, magnanimous camera work, mind boggling climax fight were to save the movie; the low pitched narration, lack of depth, missing comedy and poor script have done the needless damage. All in all, this Varudu is just an average product from Gunasekhar.

Verdict : An attempt to showcase the traditional five day`s marriage with suspense filled. Worth to watch the grand set of Pelli Mandapam and the get together of families on a happy marriage occasion which focuses on the strong bonding of our Hindu traditional marriages's.

Don`t miss to attend this wedding this weekend, in theatres near you
