‘Madharasapattinam’ invite makes waves

A look at the music launch invitation of ‘Madharasapattinam’ could take you to the Chennai of pre-independence era, since director of the film Vijay and his team have carefully crafted the invite with many a surprise.

There were postal covers with stamps of the King and Queen, British coins circulated in India at that time, post cards of the 1940s, photographs of old Madras, tickets for a show at the Eliphinstone theatre and a map of the town of Madras (in which the city ends just by touching Guindy).

Says Vijay, who had earlier directed ‘Kireedam’ and ‘Poi Solla Porom’, “this is not a mere publicity stunt. Since the film is set in pre-independence era, we wanted the audio launch invitation to resemble that. We formed a team which did intense research to put things in shape.”

“I am happy to receive a positive feedback for the invitation,” he says and adds: “I should thank producer Kalpathi S Agoram for allowing me to spend without any restrictions to bring authenticity in the movie as well as in the invitation.”

Kamal Haasan will launch the audio of ‘Madharaspattinam’, the Arya starrer, at a grand function in Chennai Trade Centre on Sunday. Director Shankar, Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan and Distributors Association president Kalaipuli G Sekaran among others will be the chief guests.
