Director Vijay is all smiles these days, courtesy to his new ambitious period saga Madarasa Pattinam. “While many directors dream of a period film in their career, I feel lucky to be directing one very early in my career,” says Vijay who still couldn’t believe his fortune. Set in the pre-independence era, the movie revolves around an unusual love affair between a peasant and a white girl. Vijay is all praises for the producers Kalpathi Agoram, who he says understands the requirements of a mega budget movie of this tune.
Set in the backdrop of 1940s, Madarasa Pattinam will showcase the Chennai city in all its old-world glory with the Buckingham Canal brimming with fresh water, the Anna Salai, Spencer’s and the Central Station. Vijay says that art director Selva Kumar is working on making Chennai look as it was way back in its colonial days to the screens and is collecting artifacts that could help him in his work. Vijay has managed to rope in the London-based Amy Jackson, winner of the Teen World 2009 for Madarasa Pattinam. G V Prakash scores the music for this period drama.
